Efficient adsorption of nickel and chromium(VI) from aqueous solutions using lignocellulose nanofibers: Kinetics, isotherms, and thermodynamic studies

Abstract The entry of heavy metals due to industrial activities into the environment is one major problems in this century. Nickel and chromium(VI) are toxin elements that used various industries. In study, lignocellulose nanofiber was purchased from Nano-Novin Polymer Company (Gorgan, Iran) as an adsorbent for removal nickel ions aqueous solutions a batch system. effects pH, initial concentration, dose, contact time, temperature were investigated. adsorption mechanism determined by Langmuir, Freundlich, kinetic, thermodynamic models. Investigation equilibrium isotherms showed isotherm fitted well with Freundlich model. pseudo-second-order model larger correlation coefficient had greater fitness against experimental data kinetic studies. Thermodynamic parameters both chromium such Gibbs free energy, enthalpy, entropy calculated which indicated spontaneous, endothermic, random processes, respectively. Lignocellulose can be suggested good highly capable adsorbing solutions.
